Dr. Diana Macias

Forest ecologist

I am an NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management at UC Berkeley.

I study how trees respond to environmental change, from ecological processes such as seed production and regeneration to evolutionary patterns of local adaptation.

My research combines long-term ecological data, field-based research, genomics, natural history collections, and community-engaged collaborations to understand how forests persist in a changing world.

Across my work, I am interested in how stewardship, ecological knowledge, including Indigenous Knowledge Systems, can support healthier forests and landscapes.
